LOU 4th of July
The Chamber of Commerce continues to unite a team of volunteers to partner with the City of Oxford and the University of Mississippi for the Annual LOU 4th of July Community Celebration. The committee’s intention for this series of events is for this to be a weekend to celebrate America’s hard-won freedoms together as a local community.
2012 Schedule of Events
Saturday, June 30th
Oxford Downtown Council “Happy Birthday, Oxford! Summer Fest” on the Oxford Square.
This event will be FREE family-friendly activities on the Courthouse lawn from 9am to 2pm which could include:
- Birthday Cake Bounce Ride
- Cotton Candy Machines
- Dunk Tank
- Face Painting Station
- Popcorn Machine
- Henna Station
- Animal Petting Station
- The Council will also hand out FREE bottled water, fans and t-shirts.
Monday, July 2nd
- Interdenominational Spiritual Service
Tuesday, July 3rd
- Street Dance on the Square
- “Oxford Film” viewing on the Square
Wednesday, July 4th
- “Stars & Stripes on the Square” 5K Classic to benefit the Oxford Lafayette Humane Society
- “Fired Up” Children’s Parade on the Square
- Children’s activities, live music and picnic in the Grove on the campus of the University of Mississippi
- City of Oxford 175th Birthday Celebration
- Patriotic Ceremony honoring our local service men and women
- Annual Fireworks Spectacular, presented by Olin Corporation - Winchester Division and the Oxford Fire Dept.

Volunteers Needed
Want to be involved? The LOU 4th of July Committee is eagerly seeking new volunteers to serve on its executive committee for the 2011 festivities. Many positions still need to be filled. We are working very hard to grow our community celebration and can not do it without you. Meetings are once a month through July.
